What is BS 6455 – Monitoring residual solvents in packaging materials about?
Food contact materials are rapidly evolving in favour of increasing consumer protection. The greatest need was for a rapid method of monitoring the levels of residual solvents in flexible packaging materials. BS 6455 describes a method of monitoring the levels of certain residual volatile solvents in gravure or flexographic printed and unprinted papers, films, foils and laminates intended for packaging. BS 6455 is suitable for monitoring the presence of the following solvents such as acetone. Tetrahydrofuran, N-propanol, toluene, ethanol, N-propyl acetate.
